FENTANYL OFFICER SAFETY AND AWARENESS SEMINAR

The opioid epidemic continues to affect our nation causing unprecedented destruction in so many of our communities. The misuse and abuse of opioids and the ongoing demand for heroin and illicit fentanyl has forced a necessary change in the way law enforcement conducts day to day operations. To create awareness and continue to educate our law enforcement partners on this critical and challenging situation, the El Paso Intelligence Center, in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Ohio State Highway Patrol will present a two-day opioid awareness and educational seminar. Seminar topics include, but are not limited to:
•Fentanyl fact or fiction/origins, chemistry and testing;
•Safety concerns and best practices when responding to fentanyl and other high hazard environments;
•Operational K9 fentanyl training, signs, and symptoms of accidental exposure to fentanyl and treatment;
•Trends and trafficking of opioids across the country to include understanding distribution on the Dark Web;
•“Death by Dealer” – prosecutorial plan for narcotic overdose cases resulting in death;
•Innovative methods to prevent, detect, and investigate the diversion of opioids and;
•Prevention at home and in our communities.
